Tanger Med Port is strengthening its position as a global automotive logistics hub by expanding its vehicle handling capacity to exceed 1 million units annually. This development reinforces Morocco’s strategic role in global automotive supply chains, particularly between Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The port, already ranked among the largest in Africa with a total container capacity exceeding 9 million TEUs, has seen rapid growth in vehicle exports driven by major manufacturers such as Renault and Stellantis. In 2024, automotive throughput at Tanger Med surpassed 600,000 vehicles, with projections indicating significant growth as production volumes increase across Moroccan industrial zones.

This expansion is expected to improve turnaround times, reduce congestion, and enhance Morocco’s competitiveness in automotive exports. The integration of specialized terminals, digital logistics systems, and multimodal connectivity (rail and road) enables faster movement of finished vehicles from factories to global markets.

Strategically, Tanger Med’s automotive growth highlights Morocco’s ambition to become a leading industrial and logistics hub in Africa. With increasing investments in infrastructure and industrial ecosystems, the country is positioning itself as a key gateway for automotive trade across the Mediterranean and beyond.
