Port of Dar es Salaam has significantly improved its operational performance, reducing vessel waiting time by approximately 30%, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance trade efficiency in East Africa.
The port, which serves as a key gateway for several landlocked countries including Zambia, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, has implemented infrastructure upgrades, digital systems, and operational reforms to streamline cargo handling and reduce congestion.
Handling over 17 million tonnes of cargo annually, Dar es Salaam plays a critical role in regional supply chains. The improvements have led to faster turnaround times, reduced delays, and improved reliability for shipping lines and importers.
This efficiency boost strengthens Tanzania’s position as a competitive logistics hub in East Africa, especially in comparison to other regional ports. As trade volumes continue to grow, sustained investment in port infrastructure and digitalization will be essential to maintain performance and support regional economic development.
