Marsa Maroc has taken a strategic step toward international expansion by acquiring a stake in Boluda Maritime Terminals, reinforcing its presence along the highly strategic Morocco–Spain maritime corridor.

This move marks a significant evolution in Marsa Maroc’s positioning, shifting from a national port operator to a regional logistics player with growing cross-border ambitions. The partnership with Boluda, a major Spanish maritime and terminal operator, allows Marsa Maroc to integrate more deeply into European port ecosystems and enhance connectivity between North Africa and Southern Europe.

The Morocco–Spain corridor is one of the busiest short-sea shipping routes in the Mediterranean, facilitating trade flows across the Strait of Gibraltar. With increasing volumes of industrial exports, automotive shipments, and containerized cargo moving between the two regions, strengthening operational presence on both sides of the corridor offers a competitive advantage in terms of transit time, reliability, and service integration.

From a supply chain perspective, this investment reflects a broader trend of vertical integration and international expansion among African port operators. By extending its footprint into Spain, Marsa Maroc is not only securing access to key European logistics nodes but also positioning itself to capture more value across the maritime logistics chain — from port handling to cross-border trade facilitation.

This development is expected to enhance trade efficiency between Morocco and Europe, while also supporting the country’s ambition to become a leading logistics hub linking Africa, Europe, and global markets.
